A heinous government from the depths of hell passed a law that you can only have 10 books in your library. List the 10 books you'd fight to keep. It's also the first one I completed. It goes deeper than just torture for bookworms. It's a life question of several levels:
- Which books are indispensable to you?
- Which books can you read over and over again?
- To which field of interest would you devote your life?
- Which books can keep you company for the rest of your life?
- What do you choose to do if you can only keep ten books?
- Which books won't you most likely be able to borrow from friends?
There may be more questions there, but these were what I was considering in choosing.
If a government of such evil does fall upon us, I'd probably go underground and keep as many books as I wish while secretly planning to overthrow the government with fellow rebels. But so as not to appear an enemy of the state, I'd still choose books to display at home with great care, as if a law-abiding citizen.
The following is a suggested criteria for choosing wisely:
- It is a lengthy book that would take forever to finish
- It is about a field of interest to which you can devote your life
- You can read it over and over again to the point of memorization, with unfaltering enthusiasm
- Your life/profession/adventures depend/s on it
- You probably won't be able to borrow it from friends because they won't have it
A wisely-chosen book fulfills at least three of the above.
